Featured Photo: Rocky Mountain Runner (Independence Pass, Colorado; USA)

The majestic crags of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains create a natural playground for cyclists, hikers, climbers and runners. This photo was taken on the Linkins Lake Trail off of Independence Pass, during a leg-stretch break on our drive from Denver to Aspen (2012). The runner is my daughter, Hannah.

Featured Photo: Swirls of Snow (Aspen, Colorado)

Snow fields linger into the summer months in Aspen, Colorado. The Lost Man Loop on Independence Gap has enough elevation change to give the hiker (and photographer) contrasting views of stark rock swirled with snow as well as flowered alpine meadows laced by streams of the frigid melt off.

Photo from June 2012.

Elevation changes create interesting contrast . This photo, taken on the Lost Man Loop in the Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness Area in Colorado plays alpine flowers and a running stream against stark snow-streaked mountains. The hike, with an elevation change of over 2300 feet, took us from alpine meadows through snow fields and on up to barren mountaintops. Exhilarating.
