The unlimited travel pass has long been a staple of overseas travel, but jetBlue has just rolled out a month-long version that is accessible from many US cities. A $599 pass buys unlimited travel on jetBlue routes between the days of September and October 8th of this year (2009). It’s not for the completely spontaneous traveler -flights must be booked (or cancelled) three days in advance or penalties apply- but it’s an appealing concept.
Destinations include several West coast cities like San Diego and San Francisco, plus Chicago in the Midwest, and a heavier concentration out East. Phoenix and Florida are covered as are vacation spots in the Caribbean, Mexico, Cuba and Bermuda.
It’s not for everyone. The deal hits at back-to-school time (to the great dismay of my adventurous daughter), and auxiliary travel costs such as food and lodging could keep many hopefuls grounded.
Who might use it? Business travelers? Maybe. Those already contemplating an extensive fall itinerary? Probably. It’s a whim-worthy bargain for those able to free up the time and money to use it well.
